Ciclopirox is a new broad-spectrum topical antifungal drug, successfully developed by the Federal German pharmaceutical company. The mechanism of action is to cause the outflow of intracellular material by changing the integrity of fungal cell membrane and blocking the uptake of protein precursor material, resulting in the death of fungal cells, which has a strong inhibitory and fungicidal effect on dermatophytes, yeasts, molds, etc. with strong penetration. In higher concentrations can also have a certain inhibitory effect on various actinomycetes, gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and mycoplasma, chlamydia, trichomonas, trichomonas vaginalis and pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Function and Application of Ciclopirox CAS 29342-05-0

1. Ciclopirox causes intracellular material efflux and blocks the uptake of protein precursor material, leading to its death, mainly by altering the integrity of fungal cell membranes. It is strongly penetrating and can reach deep into the infected skin, and can protect against most pathogenic mycobacteria, including dermatophytes and Candida albicans, as well as many non-pathogenic mycobacteria and Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
2. Pyridones are broad-spectrum antifungal agents that have inhibitory effects on a variety of skin fungi. It can prevent the substances necessary for the survival of Candida albicans cells such as amino acid, potassium ion, phosphate through the cell membrane causing certain important substrates or ion depletion in the cell, and inhibit or kill the fungal cells. It has a wide range of antifungal effects, with killing effects on skin filamentous fungi and yeast-like fungi, and inhibiting effects on a variety of gram-positive and negative bacteria, Chlamydia, Trichomonas, Aspergillus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas and Staphylococcus aureus. It is commonly used in the treatment of dermatophytosis, lichen planus, vulvovaginal candidiasis, skin and finger (toe) nail candidiasis, etc., all of which have significant efficacy and low toxic side effects.
