Ciprofibrate is a phenoxyacetic acid hypolipidemic agent, chemically known as 2-[4-(2,2-dichlorocyclopropyl)phenoxy]-2-methylpropanoic acid, also known as ciprofibrate, which is the same as gefirozil. It competitively inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, resulting in decreased cholesterol synthesis; increases the number of LDL receptors on the surface of hepatocytes, resulting in increased clearance of LDL cholesterol by hepatocytes; increases protease activity, resulting in increased clearance of very low density lipoproteins; reduces blood viscosity, anticoagulation, anti-platelet aggregation, increases fibrinolytic action and improves microcirculation.

Function and Application of Ciprofibrate CAS 52214-84-3

1. Ciprofibrate is a hypolipemic agent, related structurally to Clofibrate (C586910). Ciprofibrate is used as an antilipemic.
2. A lipid-lowering drug that also has anti-platelet aggregation and fibrinolytic effects. They are used alone or in combination with other drugs to treat endogenous hypercholesterolaemia and hypertriglyceridaemia in adults when dietary therapy is not effective, especially when blood cholesterol remains high or when there is a risk of complications.
