Irbesartan is an angiotensin II (Angiotensin II, Ang II) receptor inhibitor. Angiotensin II receptors are divided into two types: AT1 and AT2. Irbesartan can inhibit the conversion of Ang I to Ang II by selectively blocking the AT1 receptor of AnglI and can specifically antagonize the angiotensin-converting enzyme 1 receptor (AT1), and the antagonistic effect on AT1 is The antagonistic effect on AT1 is 8500 times that of AT2. By selectively blocking the binding of Ang II to the AT1 receptor, it inhibits vasoconstriction and aldosterone release, producing an antihypertensive effect. It does not inhibit angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), renin, other hormone receptors, or ion channels involved in blood pressure regulation and sodium homeostasis. Irbesartan also reduces the electrical remodelling of the myocardium, thereby reducing the lethality of hypertensive patients, and is currently the most effective drug for the treatment of hypertension and cardiovascular disease.
