Levonorgestrel[LNG] is a synthetic progestational hormone with actions similar to those of progesterone and about twice as potent as its racemic or[+-]-isomer[norgestrel][1]. It is a kind of emergency contraception, referring as a drug or device used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sexual intercourse[including sexual ass ault] or after a recognized contraceptive failure[1]. It is used for contraception, control of menstrual disorders, and treatment of endometriosis. Levonorgestrel is marketed mostly as a combination oral contraceptive under several brand names such as Alesse, Triphasil, and Min-Ovral. It is also marketed under the brand of Plan B.
