Function and Application of Monensin Sodium Salt CAS 22373-78-0
1. Monensin sodium is used as an anticoccidial and can be used in broiler feed up to 16 weeks of age at a dosage of 90-110g/t. It is prohibited during egg-laying and has a 3-day withdrawal period. It is contraindicated in equine animals and can be fatal. It is forbidden to use it at the same time as Tymogenicin and Dermatomycin.
2. The main effect of Monensin sodium is on the early life history of coccidia (ascospores to the first generation of lysosomes), which interferes with the normal exchange of sodium and potassium ions in coccidia cells, causing a large amount of sodium ions to enter the cells, resulting in a higher concentration of sodium ions in the cells and an increase in osmotic pressure. The ion concentration inside and outside the cell is out of balance, the metabolism is disturbed and the cell is depleted of energy. In addition, due to the increase in intracellular ions, a large amount of water penetrates into the cell, which swells and eventually leads to rupture.
