Olaparib is a novel inhibitor of poly ADP ribose polymerase (PARP), including PARP1, PARP2, and PARP3. PARP mediates a DNA repair mechanism that plays an important role in DNA damage repair and apoptosis, and therefore olaparib specifically acts to target the DNA damage repair mechanism in cells by attacking key vulnerabilities in cancer cells carrying BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutated cancer cells, and can be used for the maintenance treatment of patients with recurrent severe ovarian cancer with breast cancer susceptibility gene (BRCA) mutations who are sensitive to platinum-based drugs.
