Ethynyl estradiol (EE) is a synthetic estrogen and a derivative of estradiol. It is used in combination with progestin as an oral contraceptive pill to prevent pregnancy.

Function:
EE acts as a synthetic form of estrogen by binding to estrogen receptors in the body. It is used in birth control pills to prevent ovulation and thicken cervical mucus, making it difficult for sperm to reach the egg. EE is also used to treat symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and osteoporosis.

Application:

1. Birth Control: EE is one of the active ingredients in many oral contraceptive pills. It is often combined with progestin to prevent pregnancy by inhibiting ovulation and thickening cervical mucus.
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT): EE is used in HRT to relieve menopausal symptoms and prevent osteoporosis.
