Amikacin is a semi-synthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic, obtained by introducing aminohydroxybutyryl chains into the streptomycin portion of the kanamycin A molecule. It is commonly used as its sulphate, a white or off-white crystalline powder; almost odourless and tasteless. It is very soluble in water and practically insoluble in methan ol, acet one or chloro form. The antibacterial spectrum is similar to that of gentamicin, with good antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, indole-negative and positive Aspergillus, Klebsiella, Bacillus immobilis, Citrobacter, and some strains of Serratia and Enterobacter. Amikacin also has good antibacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Mycobacterium atypicalum and Staphylococcus aureus. Other gram-positive cocci, anaerobes, rickettsiae, fungi and viroids are not sensitive to this product.

Function and Application of Amikacin CAS 37517-28-5
1. Amikacin is a bactericidal antibiotic with antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and negative bacteria and mycobacteria (including Mycobacterium tuberculosis), especially against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Aspergillus, Prevotella, Klebsiella, Serratia, Mycobacterium and Citrobacter.
2. Amikacin For the treatment of various urinary tract infections, septicaemia, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, pneumonia and various lower respiratory tract infections
3. Acamycin is used for infections of the urinary tract and lungs caused by strains resistant to kanamycin and gentamicin and for sepsis caused by bacilli such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Mycobacterium avium.
