Ethambutol hydrochloride interferes with the DNA and RNA synthesis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and has a strong inhibitory effect on the growth and reproduction of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and has no cross resistance with other anti-tuberculosis drugs. Long-term use can slowly develop resistance. It is clinically used in patients who are resistant to streptomycin or isoniazid. Combined with rifampicin or isoniazid, it can enhance efficacy and delay the development of drug resistance in the treatment of all types of active tuberculosis.
