Doxycycline hydrochloride is a light blue or yellow crystalline powder, odorless and bitter, hygroscopic, easily soluble in water and methan ol, slightly soluble in ethanol and aceto ne. It has a wide antibacterial spectrum and is effective against Gram-positive cocci and negative bacilli. The antibacterial effect is about 10 times stronger than tetracycline, and still effective for tetracycline resistant bacteria. It is mainly used for respiratory tract infections, chronic bronchitis, pneumonia and urinary tract infections, etc. It can also be used for typhus, typhoid fever, and mycoplasma pneumonia.

Function and Application of Doxycyclinel Hcl CAS 10592-13-9

1. Doxycycline hydrochloride is a salt prepared from doxycycline taking advantage of the basic dimethylamino group which protonates and readily forms a salt in hydrochloric aci d solutions. The hydrochloride is the preferred formulation for pharmaceutical applications. Like all tetracyclines, doxycycline shows broad spectrum antibacterial and antiprotozoan activity and acts by binding to the 30S and 50S ribosomal subunits, blocking protein synthesis.
2. Doxycycline hydrochloride, is used to eliminate Borrelia burgdorferi and Anaplasma phagocytophilum in rodent reservoirs and to eliminate Ixodes scapularis ticks. It is a broad spectrum inhibitor used to inhibit matrix metalloproteinases (MMP), such as type 1 collagenase in studies on wound healing and tissue remodeling.
