Nystain is a polyene antifungal agent with a conjugated polyene macrolide structure that inhibits fungal activity but not bacterial activity. Mycoplasma combines with sterols on fungal cell membranes, causing changes in cell membrane permeability, resulting in leakage of important cell contents and exerting antifungal effects. Mycoplasma has many applications such as prevention of cell culture contamination and induction of interleukin (IL)-, IL-8, TLR2 expression of THP1-secreted cellular tumour necrosis factor-alpha. Mycoplasma has been used as a fungal membrane (ergosterol-binding) porogenic agent and to create mycoplasma/p-ergosterol ion channels in lipid bilayers.

Function and Application of Nystatin CAS 1400-61-9
1. Nystatin is polyene antifungal containing a conjugated tetraene and a diene, isolated as a complex of three components A1, A2 and A3 from Streptomyces noursei and first reported in 1950. Nystatin, like most polyene antifungals, binds to sterols in the fungal cell membrane leading to formation of ion channels in the wall, ion imbalance and cell death. Nystatin is an established bioprobe and widely-used antifungal reagent with over 4,000 literature citations.
2. Polyene antifungal antibiotic complex containing 3 biologically active components, A1, A2, A3. Increases the permeability of the cell membrane of sensitive fungi by binding to sterols. Cell culture tested. Growth promotant. Nystatin A1 is shown.
3. The spectrum and antibacterial mechanism are similar to those of amphotericin B. It is mainly used for Candida albicans infections of the skin and mucous membranes, oral cavity and vagina.
