R-Afatinib (CAS 439081-17-1) is a potent and irreversible inhibitor of the epidermal growth fac tor receptor (EGFR) family of tyrosine kinases. It is an enantiomer of the small molecule drug Afatinib, which is used to treat non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with EGFR mutations.

Function:
R-Afatinib binds covalently to the ATP-binding pocket of EGFR and inhibits its tyrosine kinase activity. This blocks downstream signaling pathways that regulate cell proliferation, survival, and differentiation, ultimately leading to the inhibition of tumor growth and proliferation.

Application:
R-Afatinib can be used in research and drug discovery for the treatment of cancers with overexpression or mutations of the EGFR family of receptors. It can also be used in preclinical studies to assess the potential therapeutic efficacy of new compounds targeting the EGFR pathway. However, it should be noted that R-Afatinib is not currently approved for clinical use as a standalone drug.
