Sulbactam sodium is an irreversible competitive β-lactamase inhibitor that inhibits the β-lactamase produced by both gram-positive and negative bacteria (except Pseudomonas aeruginosa), inactivates the enzyme after irreversible reaction with the enzyme, and does not restore the enzyme activity after the inhibitor is cleared.
