4-Butylresorcinol, also known as Rucinol, is an effective ingredient in a variety of cosmetics. It can inhibit melanin production. Specifically, it can inhibit the two enzymes necessary for melanin production, namely phenol Amino acid and 5,6-dihydroxyindole-2-carboxylic acid-oxidase.

1 Before melanin synthesis, it interferes with the synthesis and glycosylation of tyrosinase to prevent the enzyme from being absorbed by the melanosome.

 

2 During the synthesis of melanin, it inhibits the activity of enzymes and acts as a competitive inhibitor of tyrosinase and TRP1 enzymes, reducing the formation of by-products that promote melanin.

 

3 After the synthesis of melanin, it improves tyrosinase degradation,inhibits the transfer of melanosomes to keratinocytes, and has a light stripping effect due to the action of fatty acids. This function is enhanced by the presence of fatty acids and regulates the degradation of tyrosinase.
