Ozenoxacin is used to treat impetigo (a skin infection caused by bacteria) in adults and children 2 months of age and older. Ozenoxacin is in a class of medications called antibacterials. It works by killing and stopping the growth of bacteria on the skin. To date, ozenoxacin has been used in trials studying the treatment of impetigo. As of December 11, 2017 the FDA approved Ferrer Internacional S.A.'s Xepi (ozenoxacin 1%) as a topically applied cream indicated for the treatment of impetigo caused by Staphylococccus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes in adult and pediatric patients 2 months of age and older.

Function and Application of Ozenoxacin CAS 245765-41-7
Ozenoxacin is an antibacterial agent belonging to the class of quinolones. Its chemical name is (3S)-3-[(aminomethyl)oxy]-7-[[(1R,5S)-6,8-difluoro-1,4-dioxo-1,4-dihydro-5H-1,4-benzoxazin-5-yl]oxy]-1-azabicyclo[3.2.0]hept-2-ene-2-carboxylic acid.
Ozenoxacin has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the topical treatment of impetigo, a bacterial skin infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes. It is a bactericidal agent that works by inhibiting the bacterial DNA synthesis through interference with the activity of DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes.
The topical application of ozenoxacin results in the rapid reduction of bacterial count in the affected area and helps to clear up the infection within a few days. Ozenoxacin has been shown to be effective against a broad range of gram-positive bacteria, including those that are resistant to other antibiotics.
Ozenoxacin is available as a cream formulation for topical use. It is applied twice daily for five days. The cream should be applied to the affected area and the surrounding skin. The use of ozenoxacin may cause some side effects, including skin irritation, itching, and rash.
