Ixabepilone, a semisynthetic analog of epothilone B, was launched for the treatment of metastatic or locally advanced breast cancer. It is indicated for use in combination with capecitabine in patients who have previously failed treatment with an anthracycline such as doxorubicin and a taxane such as paclitaxel. It is also approved as monotherapy for the treatment of metastatic or locally advanced breast cancer in patients whose tumors are resistant or refractory to anthracyclines, taxanes, and capecitabine. Ixabepilone is the first member of the epothilone family of anticancer agents to be approved. Epothilones are novel cytotoxic macrolides derived from bacterial fermentation.

Function and Application of Ixabepilone CAS 219989-84-1
1. Ixabepilone is an anti-tumor agent used in the treatment of patients suffering from solid tumors, such as metastatic breast cancer.
2. Ixabepilone is a novel microtubule inhibitor anti-malignancy drug, a semi-synthetic epothilone B analogue developed by Bristol-Myers Squibb (Bristol-Myers Squibb, BMS), with a similar mechanism of action to paclitaxel, i.e. it has microtubule stabilising effects. In vitro tests have shown that it is twice as effective as paclitaxel in promoting microtubule aggregation and has a tumour-killing effect at very low concentrations. More importantly, isapirone also showed good efficacy in paclitaxel-insensitive cases or in paclitaxel-resistant cases.
3. Ixabepilone is a microtubule inhibitor used in combination with capecitabine in metastatic or locally malignant breast cancer after failure of anthracycline antibiotics and paclitaxel; or alone in metastatic or locally malignant breast cancer after failure of anthracycline, paclitaxel and capecitabine treatment.
