Phthalylsulfathiazole is a sulphonamide antibacterial drug with similar and stronger effects than sulphadiazine and sulphathiazole. It is rarely absorbed orally and is slowly broken down in the intestine to release sulphathiazole and exert intestinal antibacterial effects. It is contraindicated in cases of allergy to sulphonamides.
