Quinidine is an alkaloid extracted from the bark of the rubiaceae plant Cinchonaledgeriana (Moens). It has direct effects on cell membrane, mainly inhibits the transmembrane movement of sodium ions, has direct inhibitory effects on the automaticity, conductivity, stress and contractility of the heart, and also has anticholinergic effects on the heart. It is suitable for the cardioversion and prevention of atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, supraventricular and ventricular tachycardia, and the treatment and prevention of malignant premature beats.

Function and Application of Quini dine CAS 56-54-2

1. A dextrorotatory stereoisomer of Quinine. Antiarrhythmic (class IA). Antimalarial
2. Quinidine occurs in cinchona bark to about0.25-0.3% and also in cuprea bark. It is present in quinine sulfate mother liquor. Itis formed by isomerization of quinine. Itis used in the prevention of certain cardiacarrhythmias.
