Miltefosine is an alkylphosphorylcholine agent with activity against various parasitic species, cancer cells, and some pathogenic bacteria and fungi. miltefosine inhibits PKC from NIH3T3 cells in cell-free extracts with an IC50 of approximately 7 μM. miltefosine targets HIV-infected macrophages, which act as long-term reservoirs of HIV-1 in vivo. Miltefosine acts by inhibiting the PI3K/Akt pathway, thereby removing circulating infected macrophages without affecting healthy cells. miltefosine inhibits the PI3K/Akt survival pathway in cancer cell lines. miltefosine acts by interfering with the insu lin signalling pathway and inhibiting insu lin-stimulated Miltefosine dose-dependently inhibits insu lin-stimulated Akt phosphorylation by 75% at 40 μM and 98% at 60 μM.

Function and Application of Miltefosine CAS 58066-85-6
1. Miltefosine can enter the cell membrane and block cell signalling processes to induce a specific functional disorder that prevents further tumour growth. Used for palliative treatment of breast cancer skin where conventional treatment is unsuccessful.
2. Miltefosine is a phospholipid drug with antineoplastic and antiprotozoal/antifungal properties, also acts as an Akt inhibitor, and under investigation as a potential therapy against HIV infection.
