Carbamazepine, a white or off-white crystalline powder, is a dibenzazepine antiepileptic with similar antiepileptic effects to phenytoin sodium. It is most effective in psychomotor seizures and is also effective in grand mal, restrictive and mixed seizures. Carbamazepine has a better antiperipheral neuralgic effect than phenytoin sodium and can be used for trigeminal neuralgia and glossopharyngeal neuralgia. It is also used in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias and uremia.

Function and Application of Carbamazepine CAS 298-46-4

1.  Carbamazepine is an anticonvulsants for the treatment of grand mal seizures and psychomotor epilepsy, also for trigeminal neuralgia
2. Carbazepine is a dibenzazepine antiepileptic drug with similar antiepileptic effects to phenytoin sodium. It is most effective for psychomotor seizures and is also effective for grand mal, limited and mixed seizures. It is superior to phenytoin sodium in its antiperipheral neuralgic action and can be used for trigeminal neuralgia and glossopharyngeal neuralgia. It is also used in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias and urinary tamponade.
